Professional Hands You Can Trust
This past September, the CMTO revised the Standards of Practice for Massage Therapists in response to a bill passed by the Ontario government. Massage therapists are now required to obtain written consent from clients every time an area that is deemed “sensitive” is treated. Areas including the gluteal region, inner thighs, chest wall, and breasts have all been deemed “sensitive” by the CMTO. While we support the government’s push for zero tolerance on patient sexual abuse and believe in the importance of informed consent, we feel that the requirement for written consent has the potential to negatively impact client care.
