Therapeutic massage involves the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm, and stress; and, to promote health and wellness. It improves functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems and may improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness.
Therapeutic massage may include a relaxation element however, advanced techniques such as hydrotherapy, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, joint play, and trigger point therapy are likely to be used for pain and chronic health issues. Depending on your condition and treatment goals, your RMT may recommend a greater frequency of treatments for the first few weeks or months.
